There are times when you have to remove the "super cape " of being a loyal, kind, self-sacrificing Caregiver and yet you feel unappreciated, misunderstood, and "unheard". π€π‘π
Fun fact: "you're human". It happens.π€
You're body is NOT breaking down!
It's crying out for "my turn!" Time to hit the mental and emotional "reset" buttonβ±οΈππ
You know the what to do, what keeps drilling in your ears: selfcare, take care of you"; have a self-care routine" .....
And all you're thinking is "HOW?" no sleep, 24 hr a day duty. Where am i going to find the time?
It's not the time, or the love you have; it's the .......
π₯π₯π₯WHY, WHY , WHY exactly is "self-care" so VITAL?
Because, we are our BEST when we have PURPOSE, and getting back to your "why" can go a long way.
Here are 5 WAYS why self care matters:
πππ½ββοΈ1/Your MENTAL and EMOTIONAL HEALTH and stability- your brain and body then feel "taken care of"- reduces the need (most times), for things such as sleep aids, and maybe not so healthy ways of coping.
πππ½ββοΈ2/ Self care reminds you that YOU MATTER, - when you give yourself care, it is SELF-RESPECT and SELF-REGARD - this has been shown to greatly reduce the feelings of resentment and burnout.
πππ½ββοΈ 3/ PHYSICALLY- you are stronger, more healthy, less risk of NCDs such as hypertension - live long and prosper! (For all my fellow "TREKKIES"π€π₯°)
πππ½ββοΈ4/ Feeling better makes the WORK of Caregiving more joyful than painful- it's hard, but doable; positive vibes! The energy in the room!! AWESOME!!π₯
Caregiving is not for the fainthearted, and there are times when you need to let yourself be taken care of.
From my heart to yoursπ

#seniorcare #homesafetytips #aginginplace #healthyaging #firesafety #firedrill #familycaregiver #familysupport
How can you make sure that your home is safe, not only for you, but especially older persons (who are still very active), or those who need more assistance?
There are basic, internationally recognised , general advice that is consistent and , in most cases , inexpensive:
Let's take room by room:
1/ INDOORS: lighting - general - overhead; no glare, hallways
--ππ½π½πΏBATHROOM -(70% of falls occur here!π±)- non slip floors; grab bars; a chair installed for comfort; easy in and out; good drainage;
- -ποΈBEDROOM: no rugs; free of clutter; a bed that is safe to get in and out
- π«KITCHEN - smoke and Carbon Monoxide detectors; non- slip pot holders ;non skid shoes
--LIVING ROOM- remove all clutter; ensure space for walkers and wheel chairs if needed; NO RUGS!
OUTDOORS:
--LIGHTING! Including sensors
--If stairs- safe railings; non skid steps or ramp;
-- Remove all foliage debris, mossy areas (gutters spill over); and ensure windows are not blocked by trees or bush; use thicker curtains as needed.
PERSONAL:
-- "Easy on; custom for those with mobility issues- they are also fashinable!
--SAFE SHOES- indoors and outdoors
Finally- discuss as a FAMILY and stay SAFE!

LLT #199- Family Caregivers! Make Time for YOU: Exercise! πΆπ½ππ½ββοΈπ : How? When? Where? Why?
#exerciseismedicine #familycaregiver #caregiverslife #selfcareroutine #agelessliving #healthylifestyle #oxygen #stressrelief #timewithfriends #americanheartassociation
Hello Fellow Family Caregivers!
Yessss! I'm post-workout- sweat etc,( don't judge! lol!)
Why oh why with ALL you have to do am I even daring to bring up exercise for Family Caregivers?
Seriously?
YES- SERIOUSLY: Hear me out:
Here are 5 main benefits for us ALL! Even if you can do just intervals of 5 minutes a day!
1/ πExposure to natural sunlight boosts vitamin D levels, promoting bone health and immune function.
2/πΆπ½ππ½ββοΈπOutdoor activities open up lung function, and enhance cardiovascular fitness, muscle strength, and balance, reducing YOUR risk of frailty, falls (Caregiving -related injury) and chronic conditions such as hypertension and heart disease. You are STRONGER and FITTER!
3/π§π½Exercising fosters mental well-being, reduces stress, depression and anxiety (ππ½) improves mood, and enhances cognitive function, even reducing the risk of dementia later in life ; and who can say NO to THAT!?ππ½π―π΅π½π
4/ Even if you can just Zoom INDOORS for exercise with friendsπ«π«π«π«- you maintain your social connection - true friends are a blessing and GOOD for HEART, MIND and BODY.
5/ Probably the best of all- your SLEEP is better- more restful, with a clear mind, also knowing you did something your body will thank you for!
Sweet dreams!π΄
Good vibes!
