Welcome back!
Gents!! THIS special month is for YOU! From me๐ฉ๐ฝโโ๏ธ๐๐๐ฝ๐๐ฉบ๐
It is a worldwide fact that in general, men do NOT seek medical advice on a routine/annual basis. WHY?? ( we ladies and doctors as)?
This November- let's BREAK that cycle:
This 1st of November, the focus is on screening after 65 years.
What is recommended?
Research advises the following (adapted from
๐Physical exam: blood pressure, height and weight, waist circumference and prostate exam.
๐Blood screening: fasting blood sugar, fasting lipid profile, thyroid function especially after 70.
๐Vaccines: influenza, covid-19, Haemophilus Influenza A and B; Hepatitis A/B, Tdap, Pneumovax/Prevnar and Shingles (some)
๐STI screening: based on risk.
๐Especially if there is even a trace of memory impairment- Dementia Screen
๐Cardiovascular screening:: which can range from basic ECG/EKG, depending on the risk and any symptoms
๐๐Cancer screening: PROSTATE, colon ( lung as well as skin exam- depending on your overall risk)
๐Osteoporosis: screening should be considered in men over 70, men who lose height over time or have a low impact fracture.
๐Fall risk assessment should be completed.
๐ DON' T neglect your Eye exam.
What action step will you take TODAY?
๐Prevention, Preparation, Protection๐
Good vibes always!๐

๐ด๐ฝ๐ต๐ฝ๐๐What is DELIRIUM?
๐ด๐ฝ๐ต๐ฝ๐๐How is it different from DEMENTIA?
๐ด๐ฝ๐ต๐ฝ๐๐How can you tell?
๐ด๐ฝ๐ต๐ฝ๐๐What can be done?
While the journey through caring for loved ones with Dementia, it can be absolutely distressing to see a person previously 'OK", behaving in a bizarre way.
Take courage! It may "just be DELIRIUM" .
According to many medical sources, Delirium is a fast-developing type of confusion that affects your ability to focus the person's attention (notably) and awareness
Why?- When there is a disruption in brain activity, for any reason, there is a definite change.
Delirium is more common during long (or short) hospital stays or persons transitioned to long-term care facilities., but even at home or in daily living, a "simple fall", may cause damage to brain cells and even bleeding on the brain (from a smaller brain size and more tendency to injury.)
The most common concern relatives /carers say is:
โThatโs NOT the person I know.โ
While it is good to know that most causes of Delirium are transient and reversible, the reality is some may be a precursor to (especially , underlying Dementia).
Jojn me in a discussion on 5 main changes that can help you to identify/distinguish between these 2 "cousins".
Observe, Seek help, Ask questions!
