Why oh why with ALL you have to do am I even daring to bring up exercise for Family Caregivers?
Seriously?
YES- SERIOUSLY: Hear me out:
Here are 5 main benefits for us ALL! Even if you can do just intervals of 5 minutes a day!
1/ ๐Exposure to natural sunlight boosts vitamin D levels, promoting bone health and immune function.
2/๐ถ๐ฝ๐๐ฝโโ๏ธ๐Outdoor activities open up lung function, and enhance cardiovascular fitness, muscle strength, and balance, reducing YOUR risk of frailty, falls (Caregiving -related injury) and chronic conditions such as hypertension and heart disease. You are STRONGER and FITTER!
3/๐ง๐ฝExercising fosters mental well-being, reduces stress, depression and anxiety (๐๐ฝ) improves mood, and enhances cognitive function, even reducing the risk of dementia later in life ; and who can say NO to THAT!?๐๐ฝ๐ฏ๐ต๐ฝ๐
4/ Even if you can just Zoom INDOORS for exercise with friends๐ซ๐ซ๐ซ๐ซ- you maintain your social connection - true friends are a blessing and GOOD for HEART, MIND and BODY.
5/ Probably the best of all- your SLEEP is better- more restful, with a clear mind, also knowing you did something your body will thank you for!

WHAT IS (Good) MENTAL HEALTH?
WHO defines this as: Mental health is a state of mental well-being that
enables people to cope with the stresses of life
realize their abilities
learn well and work well and
contribute to their community.
It has intrinsic and instrumental value and is integral to our well-being.
BUTTT...........
The intensity of life's challenges has increased exponentially and has taken a toll on us all:
๐คฏ๐our minds and hearts,
๐คฏ๐ affecting our sleep- too much; too little
๐คฏ๐ destabilizing our emotions
๐คฏ๐creating conflict in our relationships and
๐คฏ๐causing a surge in unhealthy coping mechanisms- substance abuse, social isolation, and withdrawal.
This affects not only our home, but notably our place of work.
Thus the WHO theme for 2024 is :โMental Health at Work"๐คฏ๐๐ข
Key Messages:
๐The need for a supportive environment
๐Poor working conditions and insecure jobs worsen mental health, increase stress and reduce work productivity
๐Barriers to employment exist because of many factors such as ageism and other forms of discrimination, again limiting job availability and stability.
๐The need for companies and employers to increase productivity and work quality
๐๐๐๐SELF CARE may sound like a stuck record, but without good mental health, there can be no other.
Water, Play, Pause, Family time, Boundaries and Goal setting are all ways to improve our Mental Health, improve family life and reduce BURNOUT!
