Is it really true that good friends can help you to live longer, healthier, and happier lives?๐๐ต๐ฝ๐ด๐ฝ๐๐
Consider:
One 2015 study concluded that a lack of social connections was as damaging to a personโs health as smoking 15 cigarettes a day!๐ฎ
While it may seem to be harder to find friends/peers during your golden years, a little " outside the box thinking" helps tremendously.
Life changes common at this time, such as the loss of a spouse, loss of hearing or vision, retirement, and especially challenges with health and mobility can de-motivate you to consider your well-being; physical, emotional and mental health.
Loneliness has been linked to a higher risk of cognitive decline, dementia and depression. It also has been linked to heart disease, stroke and blood pressure.
So what life-benefit do friends contribute?
Friends can also help you keep your health on track, reminding you of things you need to do, noticing slight changes in your hearing and sight, and encouraging you to eat healthy. get regular health checks and adhere to positive lifestyle changes.
This influence supersedes the influence of the physician- yes it does!
It may seem hard to believe that a group of our peers can make all the difference- but remember:

When Family Caregiving is too much and you've "had it up to here" ๐ค๐ก๐
There are times when you have to remove the "super cape " of being a loyal, kind, self-sacrificing Caregiver and yet you feel unappreciated, misunderstood, and "unheard". ๐ค๐ก๐
Fun fact: "you're human". It happens.๐ค
What can you do/become to face the challenges of a bad day as you only have control of your own thoughts?
Here are 3 ways to hit the mental and emotional "reset".โฑ๏ธ๐๐
1/โฑ๏ธBox breathing - Imagine a square box ๐ฆ , close your eyes and inhale for 4 seconds in the top left corner - hold your breath for 4 seconds as you draw a line across to the upper right corner then exhale; (hold your breath on the lines for 4 seconds); draw a line down to the bottom right corner; hold for 4 seconds, draw a line across to the bottom left corner; hold, then inhale; lastly draw a line up to the first corner and exhale. Breathing this way slows your overactive, stressed mind and calms you down . You may need to do this a few times .
2/โฑ๏ธConnect with your Higher Power- however you pray, you need to tap into guidance and faith for better days .
3/โฑ๏ธConnect with friends who know you well, with whom you can safely "vent".
Caregiving is not for the fainthearted, and there are times when you need to let yourself be taken care of.
