WHAT IS (Good) MENTAL HEALTH?
WHO defines this as: Mental health is a state of mental well-being that
enables people to cope with the stresses of life
realize their abilities
learn well and work well and
contribute to their community.
It has intrinsic and instrumental value and is integral to our well-being.
BUTTT...........
The intensity of life's challenges has increased exponentially and has taken a toll on us all:
🤯💚our minds and hearts,
🤯💚 affecting our sleep- too much; too little
🤯💚 destabilizing our emotions
🤯💚creating conflict in our relationships and
🤯💚causing a surge in unhealthy coping mechanisms- substance abuse, social isolation, and withdrawal.
This affects not only our home, but notably our place of work.
Thus the WHO theme for 2024 is :“Mental Health at Work"🤯💚🏢
Key Messages:
💚The need for a supportive environment
💚Poor working conditions and insecure jobs worsen mental health, increase stress and reduce work productivity
💚Barriers to employment exist because of many factors such as ageism and other forms of discrimination, again limiting job availability and stability.
💚The need for companies and employers to increase productivity and work quality
💚💚💚💚SELF CARE may sound like a stuck record, but without good mental health, there can be no other.
Water, Play, Pause, Family time, Boundaries and Goal setting are all ways to improve our Mental Health, improve family life and reduce BURNOUT!
