You're older- "expect pain some day , somehow".
Does this sound familiar?
As we age, yes some changes happen as part of the ageing process, but it is NOT A DISEASE, nor is it inevitable, nor do you just have to resign yourself to "living with it".
It IS a time when things are what they are🤷🏽♀️
Join me as I discuss 7 common age related pain concerns, AND, tips to mitigate, or treat
Yes , we're "keeping it real" but NOT "giving in"! 💃🏽👵🏽👴🏽🕺🏽
As life goes on, especially if you have led either an active, or sedentary lifestyle, genetics, environment, things change in our bodies!
So what to do?
1/ MOVE! - joints, muscles and bones, need to keep going to be healthy- Exercise!150 mins a day; also light weights are helpful for muscle building, stability, reduced frailty.
2/The benefits of being active are more than skin deep- it improves your mood, helps with heart health, reduces the risks and severity of NCDs
3/"The Big "C"- Cancer- colon, breast, prostate, can affect older persons to a slightly higher degree as the health of cells, small mutations, and slowing of the normal healing processes make this concern valid (and scary). There are several studies which also show the benefits of exercise.
4/ EAT your vitamins- fatty foods, green vegetables, healthy starches- if not easily chewed- make a shake! Make soup!
5/Mineral and joint supplements do help- check with your doc for the best for you
6/ If the pain needs medication to ease your discomfort- use it! ( yes under supervision)
7/ CAVEAT⚠️🛑 ⚠️!
There are signs that may indicate a much more serious health concern- life and limb:
IMMEDIATELY seek medical help if there is : sudden pain that worsens despite any intervention, back pain that is associated with inability to use the toilet; sudden fall which was preceded by dizziness or confusion; a joint that suddenly becomes swollen, painful, or causes fever.
Meanwhile:
Focus on the 5 "F"s:
1/ Fun 2/ Friendship and Family 3/ Focus (mindset) 4/ Fitness (start low and go slow) and 5/ Fluids (hydrate! - it does help , in everyway! 💃🏽🕺🏽
You Got This!!!💘🎯We Got This!🎯💘🫱🏽🫲🏾!

Hi, welcome back !
Ageing is not only a biological process, it often heightens a sense of loss as especially older persons are faced more frequently with the loss of a loved one, friend, peer, colleague ; they too got older. This can bring to mind our own mortality and the sense of "running out of time".How can seniors cope with inevitable loss as they view their "generation going"?
More specifically- WHAT EXACTLY IS FRALTY? Does one size fit all ? Is it just a downward spiral to the "Inevitable?⚰️
SO what exactly is Frailty? ( a tottering older person , just getting by, waiting for a charming lad/lass to assist?
NO NO NO!!!
Let us break it down safely (and scientifically):
According to research from: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3028599/
Frailty is theoretically defined as a clinically recognizable state of increased vulnerability resulting from aging-associated decline in reserve and function across multiple physiologic systems such that the ability to cope with everyday or acute stressors is comprised.
When translated into our "Real world setting":
it essentially comes down to :
Three out of five criteria indicating compromised energetics and high risk of falls, instability and increased dependence on others:
❌low grip strength, ❌low energy,
❌slowed waking speed, ❌low physical activity, and/or
❌unintentional weight loss .
Might as well "pack it all in it all in now!? True?
RESOUNDING ::"NO"!!!!
Ageing is a process and along the way, we can and do have "helpers within out]r own system to make our days continue to be pleasant and active!
5 points on "FRAILTY FIXERS!"
1/ EXERCISE!- WALK, WEIGHTS (or other strength training)
2/ HYDRATION - check with your doctor to be clear on how much fluid intake is good for you
3/DIET- especially protein and low salt
4/ Vitamin supplements- Vitamin D3 (there are others ), sure, but this covers so much -bones, brain, sleep, muscles, kidneys...
5/ MENTAL HEALTH- it is VITAL to have a supportive group not just at home , but with your peers- talk, walk, laugh, Face-Time-get inspired and motivated!!!
It's a process!!!!(and only a process)
From my heart to yours💗
