Hello to my special community!
Communicationπ£οΈ , Cohesionπ‘, Collaborationπ€
Communication has often been called the life blood of relationships", and indeed , without real communication and connection, we can live in despair adding to the growing "pandemic of loneliness" despite the explosion in technology.
In other words:
Failure to Communicate can lead to disaster.
Here are some tried and true methods to better communication when speaking to an Older Person who has some hearing loss?
Remember : hearing aids, although invaluable , do not always address the hearing difficulties and may not be affordable, available or desirable for many Older Persons. SO WHAT TO DO?
Let's "give/be what we want to receive. "We start with love , empathy and compassion. Can't fail with those!! β£οΈπ―π:
............
π£οΈππ§π½π1/ Gently get their attention by a light tap on the shoulder and face them - do not startle!
π£οΈππ§π½π 2/ Face them directly so that they can use visual cues- (we do "hear" with our eyes; Make sure your hands do not block your face when speaking!
π£οΈππ§π½π 3/ Ensure adequate lighting so that your face is CLEARLY seen
π£οΈππ§π½π4/ Keep distractions to a minimum - TV, radio, loud traffic- reduce as much as possible!
π£οΈππ§π½π5/ Please :DON'T SHOUT!! - this distorts sound , making it harder to understand , and can also be misread as disrespectful
π£οΈππ§π½π6/ Speak at a steady pace- cadence is important in understanding what is said (and meant)
π£οΈππ§π½π7/ Similar to point 6, using GESTURES , tone and facial expressions what is said, and meant.
It's all about love , empathy and compassion.
Who can say no to that?ππ
Good vibes!

(first aired December 2022)
"The milk of human kindness"
An expression that is so special because it gives the idea of one of the purest human love that exists- nourishment from mother to child.ππ€±π½
So why would doubt exist?
The unpredictability of each day; the stressors and the hectic life of a Family Caregiver who also has to work, can take all the nourishment away and really challenge your ability and restraint, especially on the days when you feel: "Boy if ONE person tells me anything else; I am going to lose it!!" ( reality check!!).
If it seems as though you can't respond at the moment- perhaps the kindest thing would be to take a break and walk away- regain your inner peace, and place yourself in their shoes- empathy goes a long way.
"When they go low, we go high" - as FLOTUS Michelle Obama has so wisely said, is remaining a person of good character when there is unkindness towards you (in a nutshell).
Remember always- be kind to YOURSELF - you are trying, doing, worn, drained in every way and doing the best that you can. "nourish yourself with that "milk".
Think- when last did you say a kind word (even internally) to yourself?
We need more kindness- but you know what? It is paid forward each timeππ―π₯. Please don't give up!πβ
From my heart to yours alwaysπ
